I'm honestly fascinated that it is even possible for a person to not realize the magic scenes (on the game board at least) are fake. Part of it is that I never considered the fact that the sprites for Yasu's personas did not resemble their actual appearances, so I figured Shannon and Kanon were separate due to them looking drastically different.

I was actually pretty late with noticing Shannon/Kanon I didn't even suspect it until episode 5 and wasn't sure about it until the love battles in episode 6 (when it's pretty much spelled out). It's possible for both to appear during a fake scene, for obvious reasons. I also had a similar feeling like there were situations where Shannon and Kanon both showed up at the same time during "real" scenes, but in retrospect I don't think it ever happens when Battler (or whoever is detective) is observing. This is what happens with Yasu's Shannon personality when she first starts working as a maid Shannon talks a lot, but if you pay attention you'll notice she only ever addresses (and is heard by) Yasu. In many cases both Shannon and Kanon might be in a scene, but (for example) Kanon might only address things to Shannon (because she's just imagining that he's there). Otherwise, it's also important to pay attention to whether other characters actually respond to what multiple Yasu personalities are saying. One thing to keep in mind about Shannon/Kanon is that Kumasawa, Genji, and Nanjo are all helping Yasu maintain the ruse, so if there's a scene with Shannon/Kanon + one of those three then it isn't a problem. Like did everyone on the island just politely accept the split personality thing? Or maybe that's even more trickery, and the reality is that "Shannon" and "Kanon" were only ever really addressed on their own regardless of the stories we're being told through these message bottles and forgeries.

I suspect there's some word trickery that allows for there to be only one body standing there, but responding to two names. I'm not convinced it's strictly adhered to either, like there are probably plenty of times they're both in a conversation with someone else. Having a conversation buddy helps.īut man there's like 160 hours' worth of material in Umineko, I'm shocked that anybody noticed the thing about Shannon and Kanon. I've probably spent just as much time discussing this story as I did reading the VN but it takes a while to get to that point. There's just so many ways to talk about Umineko that it can feel like you didn't understand any of it, until you start reading and listening and realize that you're better off than you thought. Kazuya, Wulong, Lihua, Liza, J.Not to worry. The game is a product of its time to a laughable degree at a glance yet it proves itself to be far ahead of its time when you actually sit down and give it a try.įor more details, see the FAQ and Mechanics pages.Ĭomplete, unless we find new, relevant info However, it brings a suprising amount of original ideas to the table such as expanded air mobility, a unique (to this day, even) juggle system, an honest-to-god training mode, and some very creative toolkits while maintaining tight and responsive controls. Remember to clear the Tilt button from your controls before playing the game! Why should I play this obscure game?ĭan-Ku-Ga is superficially just another Street Fighter clone, of which there was no shortage in '94. This and a few other things reference an otherwise-unrelated mecha anime. The name Dan-Ku-Ga comes from Kazuya (the protag's) anti-air special, it's like if Champion Edition were released as "Shoryuken", lol. Slated for a release in late 1994, the game was discontinued after location testing and eventually leaked to the Internet where it would find new life through emulators like Fightcade 2. It brings with it overhauled systems, playable bosses, new moves, and a generally much higher degree of quality and playability.
